What is the Juggernaut Method?
The Juggernaut Method is a strength program from Chad Wesley Smith of Juggernaut Training Systems. It borrows the submaximal, percentage-based philosophy of 5/3/1 and expands it into a longer, more structured cycle that blends muscle-building rep work with strength peaking.
It is organised into four waves, each anchored to a different rep range, that progressively sharpen you from higher-rep volume toward heavier, lower-rep strength.
How the waves work
The program runs through four waves - the 10s, 8s, 5s and 3s - one after another. Each wave lasts a few weeks and moves through its own mini-cycle: an accumulation week to build volume, an intensification week to add load, a realisation week with an AMRAP to express your new strength, then a deload before the next wave.
Like 5/3/1, working weights are calculated from a training max rather than a true max, keeping the day-to-day sets submaximal and repeatable. The AMRAP sets on realisation weeks are how you measure progress and set your next training max.
Who it’s for
It suits intermediate lifters who want both size and strength and who are happy to commit to a longer, periodised block rather than a quick program. The higher-rep early waves make it a good bridge for lifters who need more muscle before they chase heavier singles.
It is less ideal for pure beginners or anyone who wants fast, simple progression - the 16-week structure asks for patience.
Strengths & trade-offs
Strengths: a clear progression from hypertrophy to strength, generous submaximal volume that is easy to recover from, and built-in AMRAP feedback. The wave structure keeps training varied over a long cycle.
Trade-offs: it is a long commitment, the early high-rep waves can feel light to strength-focused lifters, and you need to run the whole block to get the full peaking benefit.
How to run it
Set a conservative training max for each lift, then work through the 10s, 8s, 5s and 3s waves in order, pushing a strong-but-clean AMRAP on each realisation week. Advanced lifters can later explore the "inverted" Juggernaut variant for more intensity.

Equipment
This is a barbell program - you don’t need much, but a few pieces make it run smoothly.

Lifting Belt
Gives your core something to brace against, adding stability and lower-back support on heavy squats and deadlifts.
Check Out
Wrist Wraps
Keep the wrist stacked under the bar on heavy bench and overhead pressing, so the joint doesn’t bend back under load.
Check Out
Knee Sleeves
Add warmth and a little support to the knees, plus a small rebound out of the bottom of the squat.
Check Out
Lifting Straps
Secure your grip so heavy pulling and deadlift volume isn’t cut short by your hands giving out first.
